The Clan’s Halloween 2010

puttin up with my shit way too long

Lame lame lame. I haven’t posted in a month? So random catch up blog ahoy!

  • Bear made me watch the whole 34 minute Runaway video. The only part we agreed on (as in both loved):
  • Bear and I caught the colds from hell. I took naps on the couch at work for multiple days in a row. That is how tired and out of it I was. NAPS PEOPLE. I hate napping but I cannot tell you how much I looked forward to those 30 minute naps.
  • Bear and I are becoming awesome friends with Mr and Mrs Right. :)
  • Left has kinda disappeared on us and that is worrisome.  :(
  • We love our neighbors.
  • We have raked a million trillion acorns that have fallen from trees.
  • We are doing a great job eating at home even if it means frozen meals
  • The sun going down at 6 instead of 9 is actually contributing to us feeling tired I think. I’m not looking forward to the time change.
  • I have a bunch of fall foliage pictures from around the neighborhood but the laziness kills.
  • I found out someone I know in person is reading the blog. Hi!
  • It’s probably because Linda links me. She just can’t let me hide back here.
  • I’ve been working until 11pm a lot (> 3 times) this month. This MIGHT also be contributing to the tired/lazy.
  • I have a hard time balancing my hobbies. Blogging is easier when I am spinning/knitting and not so much when I’m reading. I dont review books. You wouldn’t want me to either.
  • Sick and tired and cold and rainy this last month has meant that I’ve been reading. A lot. I’ve blown my book budget for this month like crazy. (It’s not as bad as it sounds. My book budget is like …$20?)
  • Bear vacuumed at 1am the other day.
  • Bear almost died at 1:30am the other day.
  • After we got the new boiler/heater, we paid 2 guys $40 to remove the old castiron oil heater. This resulted in a MASSIVE greasy rusty mess. I cannot describe how black and sticky and gross this stuff was and it was ALL over our basement floor. Bear wouldn’t let me clean it. Bear wouldn’t clean it. It sat and mocked us for 2 months. Then Bear surprised me by having it cleaned while we were at work this week. I came home and went to put clothes to wash. When I opened the basement door, I screamed “BEAR SOMEONE WAS IN OUR BASEMENT!” and of course he was already anticipating this so he was right behind me so I screamed at him “DID YOU DO THIS?!”
  • Bear has been deriving an immense amount of pleasure from the look on my face and the idea that I would have thought someone would break into our basement to CLEAN.
  • I’ve been living in a state of conflict. One the one hand YAY FOR THE BASEMENT AND FOR BEAR BEING AWESOME AND SWEET. One the other hand, WTH WE COULD HAVE CLEANED THAT OURSELVES! The yay part of me is winning. Also Linda and my mom yelled at me for not falling all over Bear. They think he’s the shit.
  • My mom had surgery. I was disproportionately freaked. Linda went way beyond the bounds of friendship and visited her for me at the hospital. She blogged about it here and here.
  • The clan is losing their collective shit over Halloween. Normally we reserve this for Christmas and New Years. I can’t wait for pictures.

such a pickle

Things I (re)learned while I was home.

  • Bear is a water baby.
  • Letting my Grandma drive is like letting an angry monkey drive.
  • My cousin…damn. I need a cheat sheet for these people’s nicknames… Priss is DAMN good at scrabble.
  • Bear has a bizarre ability to handle my aunt.
  • The Hindu Temple is totally worth another visit.
  • Its always good to see where you came from
  • It’s good for Bear to see where I came from
  • Short trips are awesome and painful
  • Bear should NEVER sit in the window seat.
  • If I have to fly, I’d rather go with Bear than anyone else, even though he’s a total bitch about flying. (see the previous bullet)
  • I somehow can knit lace on a plane with Bear squishing one of my arms but I cannot when I have adequate lighting and room at my aunt’s house.
  • It’s good for my family to get Bear’s and my perspective since it’s a little removed.
  • Sometimes my family actually is right and there’s nothing to say or be done.
  • My family’s home really IS Howl’s Moving Castle
  • I could stand to hang out with my brother a lot more often. He’s a pain, but he’s a good pain.
  • There is a mythical mexican restaurant in Houston, TX. It has a large parking lot to the right side adn back and I remember it having a lot of white walls or being VERY bright. There is probably a fountain inside the restaurant. We think it has an Alma? in the name or sounds like that? It is somewhere near TC Jester. Bear, Carl and I apparently had a shared hallucination because we COULD NOT find the restaurant again. Despite 2 hrs of driving all over town.
  • Bear gets CRANKY when he’s hungry and he’s bored.
  • Carl gets CRANKY when he’s bored.
  • Sometimes it’s not the plane, it’s the kids.
  • Bear has a guardian angel. (S)He just doesn’t make sure he gets aisle seats.
  • Kosher pickles are taking over the grocery stores in the states. I cannot find a plain whole dill pickle to save my fucking life.

when morning came

I’ve had 5 hours of sleep and I really want the world to stay dark and rainy. I understand that I can’t control the weather but I would really love it if I could just for today. I do wonder at myself and the correlation between too little sleep and wanting dark and stormy weather.

The pictures I have were clearly not taken today as they are bright and shiny. Kinda makes me wish I wasn’t posting them, but it took me almost 3 years to create these stupidly simple things and I’m determined that it shouldn’t take more than week for me to actually post them.

These are the poster children following through on your promises no matter how long it takes you. When I started these leggings the little girls they were supposed to be for were ohhh 3 and 5. They are now 6 and 8. The younger of the two did try on the blue leggings at Christmas… 8 months ago. And they did fit her. Granted 8 months is forever for a 6 year old and she’s probably shot up like a tree that just hit an unlimited supply of water. The good thing is that I did plan this a little bit. The red leggings are bigger and there is a third sister that is now 3. Soooooo I actually made the leggings for a 3/4 year old and a 5/6 year old… just the oldest is now out in the cold. Since these are for ice skating, I mean that almost literally.

Lets give them names. I don’t think I’ve talked about these girls before on the blog. They don’t tend to feature so much. From eldest to youngest, Pippi, Lucy, and The General. You’ve never seen a sweeter bunch of sisters. They’ve got a new baby brother that’s got to be throwing their family into chaos. I don’t know him so well yet. I’m kind of sad about it, but that’s the price for the choices I’ve made. I’m good with it.

So, I think what I’m planning is to talk their parents into letting me know what Pippi’s new ice skating outfit looks like and making her legwarmers too. She shouldn’t be left out. I really shouldn’t have taken over 2.5 years to do this. Just sad.

Oh, weird thing I found out? They pull the legwarmers up to their hips, like they are pants almost. I’ve always seen them worn from the knees or mid thighs down. I thought that was kinda interesting and funny.
